Between the Deltas is a community-led effort by local musicians to raise awareness about the threats that the Sacramento-San Joaquin delta faces today so that we can safeguard it for future generations.
Between the Deltas is a compilation benefit album to be released ahead of Earth Day 2026. The project will involve recruiting musicians, recording, mixing & mastering, performing and promoting the album. Proceeds from album sales will be donated to Restore the Delta.

This can be expressed in a variety of ways. You could emulate or record the sounds of water in an instrumental track, write a poem about being suffocated by harmful algal blooms, or cover a song that represents another delta region around the world, like a Mississippi Delta Blues. What will you come up with?
If your work is original, or your cover/sample is within the public domain, then you won’t need to worry about this. However, if you do not own the copyright to a song or poem that you are performing/sampling, then you must obtain a mechanical license to reproduce the work in an audio-only format. You can do this either by directly contacting the copyright holder, or through a third-party agency such as Songfile or Harry Fox Agency. Submissions which don’t have sufficient copyright permissions will not be accepted.
This project is about human opinions and creativity. Artificial intelligence cannot do this in a meaningful way. Additionally, the servers which these AI models operate from are controversial due to increasing energy consumption, creating more demand for fossil fuel plants, and straining water resources in the areas that they operate to cool down the servers, some of which has been diverted away from the Delta itself.
